Law Week 2010

In 2010, the national theme of Law Week is 'The Law and Justice in your Community'.  This event will be held in each State from ,17-23 May, with a number of law-based events in Brisbane and across regional Queensland.  In Queensland, Law Week is coordinated by the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General and associated agencies, and promotes a greater understanding of the law, the legal system and the legal profession within the community.  The objectives of Law Week are:

  • To stimulate public understanding of the law and its role in society
  • To include people from diverse backgrounds, organisations and perspectives in the planning and implementation of activities
  • To form partnerships that will develop and implement public education programs about the law
  • To provide legal service providers throughout Queensland with an opportunity to participate in leadership and advocacy programs that educate the general community about the law by serving schools and communities.

The Queensland Law Society believes Law Week is a valuable opportunity for all Queenslanders to be aware of the legal services available to them, including the invaluable assistance provided by solicitors.  The Queensland Law Society will host a range of activities throughout Law Week (listed below).

  • Law Week Poster Competition
  • Trivia Night
  • QPILCH Walk for Justice

The Law Week program involves seminars, exhibitions, lectures, court and parliament tours, and many other public events and displays designed to provide legal information at little or no cost.  Law Week is the best opportunity for the Queensland Law Society to reach out to the community.
